What sounds are in the app?

The library brings together several kinds of recordings. Start with a sound that fits the moment and watch your dog’s response.

  • Dog sounds: barks, whimpers, whines and puppy vocalizations.
  • Toy sounds: squeaky toys and playful sound effects.
  • Everyday sounds: a whistle, a door knock, a doorbell and crunchy food.
  • Animal sounds: cat meows and purrs, birds and other animal calls.

How to play sounds for your dog

Choose one short sound and start at low volume with the phone away from your dog’s ears. Play it once, pause and let your dog decide whether to investigate. A relaxed interaction can lead into a game with a real toy.

A head tilt can be fun, but you do not need to keep replaying a sound to get a bigger reaction. If your dog moves away, becomes tense or starts barking repeatedly, stop playback and switch to an activity they enjoy. Doorbells and unfamiliar barks may be exciting or unsettling for some dogs.

Play sounds, training sounds and translation

Use this library for entertainment. For a predictable training signal, use a dedicated clicker or teach a whistle cue. Switching between random sound effects will not give a dog the same clear signal.

If you want to record your own voice and hear it played back as dog sounds, open the human to dog translator in the app instead. The sound library lets you pick an effect directly.

Good questions

Frequently asked questions

Can I play squeaky toy sounds on my phone?

Yes. The DogApp sound library includes squeaky toy effects for iPhone and iPad. Open the sounds section in the app and choose an effect. Playback is controlled by you.

Will barking sounds stop my dog from barking?

The library is for play and does not promise to stop barking. Another bark or a doorbell can cause more excitement. For a repeatable training exercise, start with the training guide.

Are the sounds available on this website?

The recorded sound library is in the iOS app. This site has two separate browser tools: a free online whistle and a free online clicker.
